Camphor Laurel – Naturally Beautiful and Highly Versatile Overview Camphor Laurel is a unique and eye-catching hardwood, instantly recognisable for its high colour variability and pleasant aroma. Once considered a noxious weed removed and burnt, the remaining mature trees have grown into vivid, richly patterned timber — transforming perceptions and making Camphor Laurel one of the most beautiful and sought-after “weed” species in the Australian timber industry. In its rough sawn form, it presents exactly as cut from the log and is often available with one or two live edges, making it ideal for natural-edge designs. Being a natural product, longer lengths can display slight curves or bows, adding to their character and uniqueness. Colour and Appearance Base tones: Warm golden yellow heartwood. Highlights: Streaks of red, brown, orange, black, and sometimes green tinges. Texture: Fine to medium grain with a natural sheen when polished. Edges: Often supplied with live edges for a more organic design aesthetic. No two pieces are ever alike. Because colour and figure can vary greatly, we recommend visiting our store if you want to hand-select your preferred piece.
