Colour and Appearance The timber has a pale, creamy yellow to light brown colour, with sapwood that is white to pale yellow and heartwood that is slightly darker but often not easily distinguishable. It has a straight grain with a fine but uneven texture and visible knots. Its colour tends to yellow slightly with sun exposure and it accepts stains and finishes well, making it ideal both for natural and finished looks Properties and Performance Radiata Pine is a relatively soft timber with a low to medium density (typically around 390-460 kg/m³ depending on age and growth site), offering good mechanical properties such as bending strength, tensile strength, and compression strength. It has good dimensional stability with low to moderate shrinkage (about 3-4.5% tangential, 1.5-2.5% radial shrinkage) when dried. It has excellent gluing, machining, and nailing characteristics and is resistant to splitting.
